Eucalypt: 740m
The Eucalyptus is thought to be over 80 years old (2003). It was snapped by a typhoon in 1971 and has branches growing from the trunk base.
Plaque:
This Eucalypt withstood the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. The south side facing towards the epicenter was scorched black by the heat of the blast. In 1971, the tree was snapped off about 2.5 meters above-ground by a typhoon. However, new shoots sprang from the roots and it recovered. Since then it has weathered a number of typhoons and is thriving.
